Rhythms

Days look different these days. Business clothes have been replaced by lounge wear with long mornings, lingering thoughts…so much change in a year’s time. Daily rhythms have been swapped with wonderings of what’s to come.

What do we do when we don’t know what to do?

The world takes on new beauty when it stops spinning. Moments to breathe and time to be. Yet, the unknowing can undo us. We’re quick to fill the space with anything we can make sense of and even with what we can’t.

Change challenges us, and sitting with it shapes us. Pausing shifts sights, bestows new energy, and resets our rhythms – never easy, but always necessary. Beauty blossoms in the stand-still.

No Resolutions 2021

I decided not to make any resolutions this year. 2021 = No Resolutions. That’s what I wrote in my journal anyway.

I ALWAYS make New Year’s resolutions. I look forward to making resolutions. I look back at last year’s resolutions and many of the years before that. I check off completed resolutions and roll over uncompleted resolutions.

Yet 2021 finds me sitting on my front porch eating powdered mini-donuts. I may have had sugar every day of the new year already. What gives?!

Frankly, I’m tired of striving, grinding toward perfection. Not that I ever came close, which was the problem after all. There is a time for goal crushing, no doubt, but this year I decided I won’t be focusing on a million new ways to mold a brand new me in 2021.

I won’t be setting a book reading goal, but I’m sure to enjoy lots of good reads. I am not yet committing to 80 days of workout obsession, although I do plan to enjoy lots of exercise this year. Less striving means rest, and it also means acceptance. My New Year’s resolution is to not make any resolutions. And, to eat plenty of dessert this year!
